Value for money - 65km "Team Challenge" at 2011's rate


4 Cyclists per team are required, and to qualify as a "team" all the members must be uniformly dressed. A combined time of the team will determine who the overall winners will be. A portion of the entry fees will be donated to East Rand Stereo's "Be an Angel Network". We would like to invite all casual cyclists as well as non-cyclists to support this great initiative! Your participation can make a world of difference!! This category is open to everyone!!

Alternatively, if you currently do not have a Champion Chip, you can purchase one on-line as you register for the race. Your new chip and mounting clip will be supplied with your race number at Number Collection. Race organisers receive no personal financial benefit from this event. All profits go to Rotary Community Projects, the Rotary Foundation, Germiston Wheelers Charity Projects, Be and Angel Network and the development of amateur cycling in South Africa.

RULES AND GENERAL CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

To participate in this event, you need to consent to the Conditions of Entry by accepting the following Terms:

  1. This event is run in accordance with the rules of Cycling South Africa.
  2. All participants undertake to adhere to these rules as well as all rules of the event.
  3. All participants are required to have a valid CSA License at the time of participating in the event, which must be presented when collecting your race numbers for the event. If you do not have a valid CSA License when collecting your race numbers you will be required to purchase a day License for the event.
  4. The event will take place regardless of weather conditions and will only be cancelled for safety reasons.
  5. No entry fees or product purchases will be refunded once your payment has been processed. After you have accepted these terms and finalised your payment, your entry will be confirmed and cannot be cancelled.
  6. All entrants accept that they participate entirely at their own risk and agree that they shall have no claim whatsoever against the race organisers, officials, volunteers, ChampionChip, sponsors and any other individuals involved with the event from any liability or claim resulting from any damage, loss or injury as a result of taking part in this event.
  7. Entrants accept responsibility for payment of any transaction made by Credit Card and reversed by the bank for any reason.
  8. No person may compete without wearing a hard shell cycling helmet and tri-bars are not permitted in any form.
  9. The race route and profile are available on the website, and although the route will be well marked, it is the sole and personal responsibility of every entrant to know the route. The organisers take no responsibility for persons deviating from the route, or any consequences of such action.
  10. Cyclists must ride in a predictable and responsible manner and obey the traffic rules, traffic officers and marshals.  Cyclists may be required to stop at intersections if necessary.
  11. All cyclists must keep to the left hand lane. Any rider crossing the centre line will be disqualified. This rule will be strictly enforced.
  12. No person under the age of 12 years may enter the 103km event and no person under the age of 10 years may enter the 65km event. All minors must have parental consent.
  13. ChampionChip is the official race timing system. All participants in the timed events are required to have a valid ChampionChip registered in their name and correctly attached to the front fork of their bike by means of the appropriate ChampionChip Bike Clip for the full duration of the event.
    NO CHIP – NO RESULTS – NO TIME.  No results will be manually captured as a result of participants not using a correct ChampionChip or not correctly attaching the ChampionChip.  Timing chips can be validated during registration. Without an official timing chip you may not be eligible for prize money.
  14. Anyone starting ahead of his/her seeded time will be disqualified.
  15. Numbers must be worn low down on back of each participant’s jersey.
  16. No participant may allow anyone else to use his/her number.  Any per person who permits anyone else to use his/her number as well as the person using the number could be suspended for two years.  Substitutions can be arranged for the prescribed fee of R100.00 per entry at registration.
  17. Cyclists are to ensure that their cycles are in good working order and it is recommended that they carry spares.
  18. All entrants must complete the course by 13:00 at which time the marshals and traffic officials will withdraw.
  19. No participant may, directly or indirectly, take food or drink or any other assistance from any moving vehicle, bicycle or machine, at any time along the route.
  20. Cyclists must pull off the road to receive refreshments.
  21. No seconding will be allowed from private vehicles. Only team support vehicles authorised by the Race Director will be permitted on the route.
  22. Slipstreaming behind vehicles is not permitted.
  23. Sweep vehicles and emergency medical assistance will be patrolling the race route.
  24. Although the organisers endeavour to place marshals at all possible intersections, participants must realise that they are sharing the route with normal traffic and should take care and should abide by the normal traffic rules, traffic lights and stop streets.
  25. Cash prizes to the value of R80,000 will be awarded in accordance with the prize list. Prize giving will commence at 10:30. Category winners for the first 3 places must be present at the prize giving ceremony.
  26. The rules stated above are binding and the organisers, referees and traffic authorities’ ruling will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  27. The judges’ decision is final.
  28. Failure to comply with any of the rules of this event will result in disqualification.
  29. Traffic authorities and marshals will withdraw from the route at 13:00, five hours after the last 103km group leaves the start.
  30. By entering the event the entrant confirms that they abide by the rules and general conditions of entry for this race and that he/she is medically fit to complete the event, and that their cycle used is in a roadworthy condition.
  31. The ride will start on time at 06:00 (ensure that you arrive early).
  32. Provisional Race results will be posted prior to prize giving and final results will be found on the ChampionChip web site www.chamopionchip.co.za


Indemnity

Entrants and participants ("Participants") in the Carnival City Macsteel National Classic Cycle Race ("the Event") acknowledge that although all precautions have been taken by the organizing body to ensure the safety of all participants, there may be dangers inherent in participation in the Event and activities related thereto.

Participants voluntarily assume the risks of attendance at and participation in the Event and hereby waive all claims of whatsoever nature and howsoever arising in relation to the Event or otherwise against any parties, including but not limited to the organizing body, the sponsors, the advertisers, any local authority and/or the directors, employees, suppliers and assistants of these parties, including any individual, official, marshal or agent ("the Parties").

Participants hereby irrevocably indemnify and hold harmless the Parties against any liability and claims of any nature whatsoever and howsoever arising (whether directly or indirectly caused and whether arising from negligence, albeit gross, or from the participation or involvement in or passage to or from the Event or otherwise) including but not limited to liability for delay, inconvenience, accident, death, injury, illness to their person, or loss or damage to property or costs and expenses sustained, incurred or put to by Participants and/or by any minor children under the care or control of Participants.

Parents or guardians authorizing a minor's participation in the Event, which shall prima facie be evidenced by their signature on this entry form, hereby consent to such minor being bound to the aforegoing and further indemnify the Parties to the extent, if any, to which such minor is not capable of waiving his/her rights as stipulated above.
