Michael Mol Set For Another Adventure
In The Final Event In The Nissan Series This Weekend
Press Release : Advendurance Media
Maybe you have seen dr. Michael Mol on television or have been inspired by him when listening to one his motivational talks.
If you have entered for the last event in Nissan’s Mountain Biking Series for 2009 which will take place at the Van Gaalen Cheese Farm at Hartbeespoort Dam on Saturday, you will have the very special opportunity to ride with doctor Mol. Mol is a self-confessed adrenalin junkie or, in his own words, he has ‘an insatiable thirst for endogenous adrenalin’.
He has done things about which most people can only dream or read in books or magazines.
He has, for example, skydived out of a hot-air balloon, run with the bulls in Pamplona, scuba-dived under a frozen lake, wing-walked on a bi-winged aero plane, surfed the great Zambezi white waters on a body-board and bungee-jumped backwards from the highest bridge in the world.
Up until now there has not been a challenge from which he has shied away.
But being a dad requires a bit more responsibility and that is one of the reasons why Dr Mol has taken up mountain-bike racing.
“I found mountain biking to be much more of a family sport. At each of the events there is an opportunity for the rest of the family to participate. On Saturday I am doing the 30km race with my son Joshua.
“I have also done Nissan’s Down and Dirty and I must say that I just loved the single-track and technical sections. For me that is what mountain biking is all about.
“My next big challenge will be next year when I am going to do the Cape Epic with Jeremy Thomson who, between 1989 and 1998, played 152 matches for the Sharks. We will be riding for the Toyota/SuperCycling Academy.
“To be honest, I will have my work cut out to stay with Jeremy. The moment he gets onto his mountain bike, he turns into an absolute machine. He has done the Epic twice, but for me it will be a first time,” said Mol.
He is one of the stalwarts of Top Billing, the weekly aspirational show which is the longest-running magazine programme on South African television. Last year he received the People’s Award for the best television presenter. To top everything, he is a former ‘Mr. South Africa’.
Mol is also the CEO of the Sportron Group of Companies which focuses on providing and promoting health and wellness through ongoing education.
Fritz Pienaar, the organizer of the race, rates Saturday’s event as the best of the Nissan Series.
“If the riders think they have had amazing rides up till now, a pleasant surprise awaits them. They have seen nothing yet. We have saved the best for last. Nature has provided us with everything we need to put together one of the best races ever. There is a mountain, real bush and water to work with. One of the most enjoyable sections of the route will be the 15 kilometers of single track right next to the river.”
